My Story

I'm JJ Typography (JJ Tintiangco / she/her), A Multidisciplinary Designer, Brand Strategist & Creative Educator specializing in typography, illustration, and user-centered design, with a focus on wellness, accessibility, and social impact. I began lettering and illustration as a child to navigate undiagnosed dyslexia—what started as a creative outlet became a tool for empowerment, healing, and self-discovery.

As a proud third-generation Filipina American 🇵🇭 raised on Kumeyaay Land (San Diego, CA) and later shaped by my undergraduate years on Ohlone Land (San Francisco Bay Area), my art draws deeply from both experiences. Rooted in Ethnic Studies, my work reflects an inclusive, culturally grounded, and community-centered lens.

My Approach to Design

I merge bold typography, emotionally resonant illustration, and community-rooted storytelling to create work that is both visually striking and strategically grounded. Using tools like Procreate, Figma, and Canva, I craft design solutions that prioritize clarity, accessibility, and emotional connection.

My background in Ethnic Studies deeply informs my process—shaping a lens that centers inclusion, identity, and cultural awareness. Whether I'm collaborating with grassroots organizations or building brand systems from scratch, I approach every project with intention, playfulness, and a commitment to social impact.

Design, for me, is a practice of care. It’s how I transform ideas into visuals that move people—bridging strategy with soul, and creativity with purpose.

What I Offer

In addition to my creative studio practice, I’m the co-founder of The Art of Becoming LLC and the co-author + illustrator of The Art of Becoming: Self-Loving, a mental wellness workbook rooted in accessible design and personal and community healing.

With a background in ethnic studies education, community care, and health education, I bring a holistic lens to my design approach—balancing strategy, empathy, and visual storytelling. Whether I’m crafting user-centered digital experiences, developing brand identity systems, or leading socially driven creative projects, my work is built to amplify voices and foster connection.

Mentorship & Community

Design is more than a practice—it's a tool for empowerment. I’m committed to mentoring emerging creatives, helping them discover their unique voice, build confidence, and make meaningful impact through their work.

With a focus on self-expression, resilience, and cultural storytelling, I offer guidance that encourages exploration, bold creativity, and growth. My mentorship centers community care and celebrates creative identity—especially for those navigating nontraditional paths.

Life Beyond

Design

Outside of design, I spend time traveling between San Diego and the Bay Area—two creative homes that deeply influence my work and who I am. Whether I’m collaborating with friends, building alongside community partners, or simply soaking in the everyday beauty of each place, I find endless inspiration in the people and experiences that surround me.

From nature walks to new cafés, and shared sunsets to deep conversations, I stay rooted in practices that nurture creativity, connection, and joy. These moments beyond the screen are just as vital to my process—they remind me why I create in the first place.

I’m currently booking new projects

and creative collaborations remote and beyond.

Whether you’re launching something meaningful or reimagining your brand, I’d love to help bring your ideas to life.

Let’s make something thoughtful, bold, and beautifully you.
